<text>This book collects the proceedings of the Final International Conference of the CoSME Project (National Project of Relevant National Interest PRIN 2022, “Towards a European Model of Community Sponsorship for Refugees: Access, Reception and Integration”), which was held at the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy, on 24-25 November 2025. The CoSME Conference, entitled “Towards A Genetic Transformation of Asylum? Legal Pathways and Community Sponsorship: Between Protection and Containment”, hosted an interdisciplinary reflection on the development of community sponsorship as an increasingly significant - yet conceptually complex and multifaceted - instrument within contemporary refugee protection. The proceedings aim to widen the scope of engagement beyond scholarly debate, connecting normative analysis with institutional practice and public awareness. Overall, the contributions featured in this collection seek to advance reflection on what may be described as the ongoing transformation of asylum in Europe.
They approach community sponsorship not simply as a complementary admission channel, but as a privileged lens for observing broader processes of legal innovation, institutional reconfiguration, and normative contestation in the field of international protection. In doing so, they aim to shed light on the opportunities, tensions, and ambiguities that accompany attempts to reconcile solidarity, responsibility-sharing, and refugees’ protection within an increasingly fragmented European asylum framework.</text>
